I can’t believe my eyes

I’ve been reading comments for this photo, and there’s also sorts of comments, like “Beautiful eyes! Eastern European! Afghani! Romani!”
The original caption says: “Islamabad, Pakistan” so I don’t know where people are getting this stuff from, unless it says so otherwise. Islamabad is home to many different diasporas.
Not that I do not disagree that they both have interesting eyes, but the exotcism of light eyes on tumblr, or in general maybe, is just ridiculous.
I feel like if I posted a simply photograph of some “ethnic” looking child with an eye disorder (no caption) they may be blind or otherwise, it would be reblogged like this:
“OMG!!! I WANT TO HAVE EYES LIKE THIS!!” or “LOOK HOW DIFFERENT THEIR EYES ARE!!!”
I’m also certain that if I posted a picture of my grandmother, who has glaucoma- so her eyes are turning a shade of blue- that would viewed as “soooo beautiful.” Nevermind that she’s losing her eyesight or anything.
Not that this child’s eyes aren’t striking and a little haunting, because obviously they are, disorder or natural (granted, his eyes look a little clear to me, and I can’t really see his pupils) but that’s not really my point.  I’m just getting a little sick of the fetishizing, and it’s getting a little creepy.

But I like big eyes, no matter what colour. And I think small eyes are pretty as well.
I JUST LIKE EYES.

youmightfindyourself:

A six-year-old HIV carrier, has been living alone since his parents died of AIDS. The boy, known as Ah Long, does his own washing, cooking, studying and raises chickens. He lives in his parents’ house at the foothill village of Malu Mountain in Liuzhou in Guangxi Province, China. Ah Long has an 84-year-old grandmother, who visits him quite frequently and cooks for him despite not living with him. A local primary school was forced to turn down his application under pressure from parents of other children.

Due to his complicated family background, the Welfare Department has declined to take care of the boy. He receives 70 yuan of subsistence allowance per month from the local civil bureau. (more details)

And you said your life is fucked because of…what’s that? Some homework? You got dumped by your bitch?
